This model, the Avant Coureur, first appeared as a stock model in 1948 and featured ”bi-laminate” lugged construction. It was found in Attilio Pavesi’s shop in Buenos Aires. This was the race-ready rig for the rider who wanted to keep up with all of the older kids in the neighborhood. While not one of the prettiest bikes in the museum collection, this battered and bruised bike probably has the most race wins of any of our bikes stored up in its old tubes. This tandem showcases the true engineering genius and artistry of Claud Butler. Long before Nicole Kidman was a “BMX Bandit” on her Malvern Star (seriously, check out the 1984 movie), you could have ridden around on a bike like this beauty.
